A legendary Roman hero from the 5th century BCE. He played an active role in the siege of the city of Corioli during the war with the Volscians. Later, when Rome fell into a famine, he was exiled for opposing the supply of grain to the poor as an anti-plebs (commoner), and is said to have surrendered to the Volscians and then attacked Rome. He is featured in the works of Shakespeare and Beethoven. Source: Encyclopaedia Britannica Concise Encyclopedia About Encyclopaedia Britannica Concise Encyclopedia Information |
