price lining policy

Japanese: price lining policy(英語表記)priceliningpolicy
price lining policy

...(1) includes (a) cost-plus pricing, which adds a mark-up (usually customary profit) to the cost of the product to determine the selling price, and (b) variable mark-up pricing, which determines the selling price by adjusting the mark-up accordingly while considering various conditions. (2) includes (a) prestige pricing, which takes advantage of the consumer psychology that the higher the price, the higher the product's quality and the higher the user's status, as in the case of cosmetics, (b) customary pricing, which was once seen with caramel and soap, where a certain customary price exists, and if the price is increased, sales drop drastically, and if the price is reduced, sales do not increase much, so the customary price is maintained for a long time, (c) odd pricing, which gives the impression of a bargain by setting a fractional price such as 98 yen or 998 yen, and (d) price lining policy, which makes it easier for consumers to choose by limiting the price to the best-selling price and simplifies inventory management. (3) Examples of this policy include a "price imitation policy" or a "price follow-up policy," in which a company sets its prices by simply copying the prices set by its rival companies (or, depending on the circumstances, with a certain margin of error).
