1250‐1326 A Shiite Islamic Twelver theologian. Born in Hilla, Iraq. A disciple of Nasir al-Din al-Tusi. Commonly referred to as "Allāma-i Ḥillī (the Great Knowledge)." He placed emphasis on legal interpretation (ijtihad) through reasoning and personal judgment, and was a central figure in the Usul school of Twelver jurisprudence. His commentary on Nasir al-Din al-Tusi's book The Pure Creed, Kashf al-murād, is respected as a fundamental textbook in Twelver theology.
