pūjanā (English spelling) pujana

...offering incense and flowers, lamps, food and drink, and other offerings to Buddha, Bodhisattvas, and deities. A translation of the Sanskrit word puja or pūjanā. These words originally meant "respect," so offering incense and flowers out of respect for the other person is a memorial service, which differs in meaning from the Brahmanic "yajña," a sacrifice made to the gods in return for some kind of reward or to show gratitude.
