A medieval local feudal lord in Shimotsuke. Based in Mibu, Tsuga District (present-day Mibu Town, Shimotsuga District, Tochigi Prefecture). Said to be a descendant of the ancient Mibu clan, which gave birth to Ennin, and also a branch of the Mibu clan, which served as a Kyoto official. The clan prospered for five generations from the 15th to 16th centuries, through Taneji, Tsunashige, Tsunafusa, Tsunao, and Yoshio. Taneji built Mibu Castle, Tsunashige advanced as far as Kanuma, and eventually built Kanuma Castle and moved there, planning to advance into Mount Nikko. Tsunafusa also served as the head of the Nikko Shrine Land Administration Office. After Tsunashige was killed in a clan feud, Yoshio sided with the Later Hojo during Toyotomi Hideyoshi's attack on Odawara in 1590 (Tensho 18), and the Mibu clan was wiped out.
