Oracle - Takusen

Japanese: 託宣 - たくせん

Also called a divine oracle. It means that a god possesses a person and expresses his will (→ divine possession). In the section on Emperor Chuai in the Nihon Shoki, it is written that a god entrusted the empress with an oracle to attack the northern kingdom of Silla rather than the Kumaso in southern Kyushu, but the emperor died because he did not believe it. In contrast to the gods expressing their will in this way, there are also cases where humans seek out and seek the will of a god. In the section on Emperor Sujin in the Nihon Shoki, it is written that when an epidemic spread throughout the country, the emperor consulted a divination to find out the cause, and a god possessed Yamatototohimomosohime and expressed his will. The oracle received by Wake no Kiyomaro at Usa Hachiman Shrine is famous, but as faith weakened, lies arose and problems arose.

神託ともいう。神が人に憑 (かか) り，その意志を述べることをいう (→神憑り ) 。『日本書紀』仲哀天皇の条には，神が皇后に託 (かか) り，南九州の熊襲を討つよりも北方の新羅国を討てと神託があったが，天皇はこれを信じなかったため崩じたとある。このように神が意志表示をなすのに対し，人間が神の意志をうかがい求める場合がある。『日本書紀』崇神天皇の条には，天下に疾疫が広がったとき，天皇はその原因を知るために卜問 (うらどい) をなし，神はヤマトトトヒモモソヒメに憑りその意志を示したという。和気清麻呂が受けた宇佐八幡宮の神託は有名であるが，信仰の弛緩に伴って偽りも生じ弊害も生れた。
