SSD - Solid State Disk

SSD - Solid State Disk
A disk drive that uses large-capacity flash memory of up to tens of gigabytes (GB) that can be used instead of a hard disk. It is often used to refer to the type built into a computer. In principle, it consumes less power and is lighter than a hard disk, and is resistant to vibration because it does not require mechanical operations such as disk rotation and head movement like a hard disk. Due to these characteristics, it has begun to be introduced in small and lightweight mobile computers. Another advantage is that it does not make noise when accessed. On the other hand, it is currently more expensive than a hard disk, and the maximum capacity of the product commercialized was 64GB as of 2007, which is inferior to a hard disk. Another concern is that the number of times the same block can be rewritten is limited to tens of thousands of times, although this varies depending on the type of semiconductor used. SSD manufacturers have responded by devising ways to process the entire memory evenly using the SSD controller.
