Puruṣa (English spelling)

Puruṣa (English spelling)

...There are theories that the chief deity Brahmanaspati (Brihaspati) or Visvakarman (Visvakarma) is the creator of all things, and that the creator god emerged as a golden fetus (Hiraṇya-garbha) conceived in the primeval waters of the primordial age. There is also a theory, common to the myths of the dismemberment of giants found among various peoples, that the gods performed a ritual using the original man Puruṣa, who is everything itself, as a sacrificial animal to create various worlds. In the hymn to "not being and not being" in the Rig-Veda (10:129), the theory of the creation of the universe takes on the color of profound philosophical thought.
