Japanese: 小野田[市] - おのだ

An old city facing the Suo-Nada Sea in western Yamaguchi Prefecture. It was incorporated as a city in 1940. The city center developed on reclaimed land from the early modern period onwards, and prospered due to the traffic of coal ships from the Mori clan. The Sanyo Main Line and the Onoda Line run through the city. Since the Meiji period, chemical and pharmaceutical industries have been established here, including Onoda Cement, and it has developed into a cement town and is the core of the Shunan industrial region. With many parks and green spaces, it is known as the town with the largest park area per capita in Japan. In March 2005, it merged with Sanyo Town in Asa County to become a city, becoming Sanyo Onoda City. Area: 43.05 ^km2 . Population: 45,310 (2003).

山口県西部，周防灘(すおうなだ)に面する旧市。1940年市制。中心市街は近世以降の干拓地に発達，毛利藩の石炭船の往来で栄えた。山陽本線，小野田線が通じる。明治以後小野田セメントをはじめ化学・製薬工業が立地，セメントの町として発展，周南工業地域の中核となっている。公園や緑地が多く，一人当たり公園面積日本一の町として知られる。2005年３月厚狭郡山陽町と合併し市制，山陽小野田市となる。43.05km²。４万5310人（2003）。
