Promotion system

Japanese: 昇進制度 - しょうしんせいど(英語表記)promotion system
Promotion system
It is a system that allows employees to move up to a higher-ranking job than their current job (or more precisely, their rank) as part of personnel management. When a promotion system is established, it is normal for there to be a clear transfer and promotion path that shows the order and direction of the job transfers and promotions that employees will receive depending on their performance and ability. However, in Japan, job analysis and job hierarchies are not widely used, and jobs are often not clearly organized, so the promotion system is quite vague. In fact, the criteria for promotion are focused on educational background and years of service, and in terms of ability, personality and potential are the only considerations, so there is little relationship between job and performance, and it has been criticized as a kind of status system. However, in recent years, meritocracy has been emphasized, and ability and performance have become determining factors for promotion.
