Otofuke River

Japanese: 音更川 - おとふけがわ

A tributary of the Tokachi River that flows through the eastern part of Hokkaido. It is 93.5 km long and has a drainage area of 740 square km. It originates in the Ishikari Mountains, flows south, passes through the mountains, enters the Tokachi Plain near Shimizudani in Kamishiro Town under the jurisdiction of the Tokachi General Subprefectural Bureau, and merges with the main river near Obihiro. In 1953 (Showa 28), based on the Hokkaido First Comprehensive Development Plan, Nukabira Dam and a power plant (output 46,000 kilowatt-hours) were constructed upstream. The artificial lake is called Lake Nukabira.

Lake Nukabira
This artificial lake is located in the center of Kamishihoro Town. It was created when the Otofuke River was dammed up during the construction of the Nukabira Dam for hydroelectric power generation. 北海道の東部を流れる十勝川(とかちがわ)の一支流。延長93.5キロメートル、流域面積740平方キロメートル。石狩山地を水源とし、南流して山地を通過後、十勝総合振興局管内の上士幌(かみしほろ)町清水谷(しみずだに)付近から十勝平野に入り、帯広(おびひろ)付近で本流と合流。1953年（昭和28）北海道第一期総合開発計画に基づき、上流部に糠平ダム(ぬかびらだむ)と発電所（出力4万6000キロワット時）を建設。人造湖を糠平湖とよぶ。
