Japanese: お妻八郎兵衛物 - おつまはちろべえもの

It is a type of Kabuki Kyogen and Ningyo Joruri. It is based on the incident in July 1702 (Genroku 15) when Otsuma, the daughter of the teahouse Tanbaya in Horie, Osaka, was murdered at Nishihama, Yotsubashi by Furuteya Hachirobei. This incident was quickly adapted into a Kabuki play and performed at three theaters in Osaka. In the Matsumoto-za's "Killing the Girl from Yotsubashi," Tanbaya Otsuma and Obiya Hachirobei were lovers. Hachirobei misunderstands a conversation between his friend Yabei and Otsuma and kills the woman, but when he realizes he has made a mistake, he commits seppuku, and Yabei also kills himself. Subsequent Kabuki plays include "Fumizuki Uramino Kiriko" (July 1731, Osaka Iwai Hanshiro-za (middle play)).

歌舞伎狂言，人形浄瑠璃の一系統。1702年(元禄15)7月大坂堀江の茶屋丹波屋の娘おつまが古手屋八郎兵衛のために四つ橋西浜で殺された事件を題材とする。この事件は，すぐに歌舞伎に仕組まれ大坂の3座で上演された。その時の松本座の《四ッ橋娘殺し》では，丹波屋おつまと帯屋八郎兵衛は恋仲。八郎兵衛は友人の弥兵衛とおつまの話を誤解して女を斬り殺すが，まちがいとわかって切腹，弥兵衛も自害するという筋であった。以後の歌舞伎には，《文月恨切子（ふみづきうらみのきりこ）》(1731年7月大坂岩井半四郎座(中の芝居))がある。
