Japanese: オーチュウ(烏秋) - オーチュウ（英語表記）drongo

A general term for birds in the passerine family Dicruridae. This family consists of about 20 species, all of which are found in the subtropics to tropics of the Old World. Of these, three species live on the African continent, four on Madagascar and its surrounding islands, and 13 from South Asia to New Guinea, but none live in Japan. Some species, such as the long-tailed drocodile Dicrurus paradiseus (illustration), which is widely distributed in South Asia, have particularly long tail feathers and can reach a total length of around 70 cm including these long tail feathers.

スズメ目オーチュウ科Dicruridaeの鳥の総称。この科の鳥は約20種からなり，いずれも旧世界の亜熱帯から熱帯に分布する。そのうちアフリカ大陸に3種，マダガスカル島とその周辺の島々に4種，南アジアからニューギニアにかけて13種が生息しているが，日本には1種もいない。南アジアに広く分布するフキナガシオーチュウDicrurus paradiseus（イラスト）のように尾羽の一部が特別に長いものでは，この長い尾羽も含めると全長が70cm前後に及ぶものがある。
