Schistocerca gregaria (English spelling) Schistocercagregaria

...Lachoppers that fly in swarms are called flying locusts (or hawk locusts in recent years), and are considered one of the most feared pests. There are many types of locusts that have the characteristics of flying locusts, but the most well-known are the migratory locust (Locusta migratoria ), which is widely distributed from Africa to the Palearctic and Oriental regions, the Moroccan locust ( Dociostaurus maroccanus ), which is distributed from North Africa to the Mediterranean coast and the southern part of the former Soviet Union, the brown locust (Locustana pardalina) of Southwest Africa, the Rocky Mountain locust (Melanoplus mexicanus) of North America, the red locust (Nomadacris septemfasciata) of South America, the desert locust (Schistocerca gregaria) of South Africa and the Middle East, and the South American locust (S. paranensis ) of Central and South America. These insects are serious pests that travel long distances in swarms of thousands or tens of thousands, devouring plants and spreading elsewhere, and their outbreaks are still a threat today.
