Du Huan (English)

Japanese: 杜環 - とかん（英語表記）Du Huan

A man of the mid-Tang Dynasty in China. Author of the Jingxingji. Son of the Prime Minister Du You. He participated in Gao Xianzhi's Western Expedition, but was defeated at the Battle of Talas River in 751 and taken prisoner and sent westward, where he visited Central Asian countries and the Eastern Caliphate (Dashi), and returned to China via Ceylon in 762 aboard a merchant ship. A dozen articles from the Jingxingji, a record of what he saw during that time, are quoted in Du You's Border Defense Section of his General Dictionary, and are considered a valuable historical source that tells us about the situation in Central Asia in the 8th century.

中国，中唐の人。『経行記』の著者。宰相杜佑の族子。高仙芝の西征に従軍，天宝 10 (751) 年のタラス川の戦いに敗れ捕虜となって西方に送られ，中央アジア諸国，東カリフ帝国 (大食) の地方を見聞し，セイロン島を経て宝応1 (762) 年商船に乗り帰国した。その間の見聞記『経行記』は，佚文十数条が杜佑の『通典 (つてん) 』辺防門に引用されており，8世紀の中央アジアの事情を伝える貴重な史料とされる。
