A military commander from the late Kamakura period to the Northern and Southern Courts period. He was the son of Sadamune and was originally named Takatomo. He was born in Hitachi Province (Ibaraki Prefecture). He became the Governor of Owari, the Junior Assistant Minister of the Imperial Household, and the Suke of Hitachi. In 1327 (Kareya 2), he was ordered by the shogunate to put down the rebellion of the Ando clan of Mutsu, but when the shogunate was destroyed, he went to Kyoto accompanied by Fujifusa of Madenokoji and followed the Kenmu government. In 1603 (Engen 1, Kenmu 3), they came to the aid of Kusunoki Masaie at Urizura Castle, and in 1603 (Engen 3, Ryakuo 1), they welcomed Kitabatake Chikafusa to Oda Castle and fought against Takano Morofuyu as the center of the Southern Army of Kanto. However, in 1616 (Kokoku 2, Ryakuo 4), they surrendered and thereafter joined the Ashikaga side and fought against the Southern Army.
