Vegetative hybrid

Japanese: 栄養雑種 - えいようざっしゅ（英語表記）vegetative hybrid

This refers to a hybrid produced by vegetative reproduction, and is roughly the same as a graft hybrid. In other words, in grafting, the rootstock (lower part) and the ear (upper part) influence each other through the exchange of metabolic substances, resulting in a hybrid state. It is expected that substances produced in the rootstock will enter the fruit that grows on the ear and affect its quality. However, since the genetic composition of the ear has not changed, it is not expected that the influence of the rootstock will remain fixed when the seeds are grown. Regarding vegetative hybrids in animals, there have been reports of blood replacement attempts in birds, but the occurrence of hybridizing effects has not generally been confirmed.

栄養生殖の様式でつくられた雑種の意味であって，接木 (つぎき) 雑種 graft hybridというのとほぼ同義。すなわち接木において，台木 (下部) と穂 (上部) が代謝物質の交流などによって影響を及ぼし合い，雑種的状態となること。台木での生成物質が穂に着生した果実に入り込んで品質に影響を及ぼすようなことは，予期できる。ただし穂の遺伝子組成が変化したのではないから，種子を育てた場合に，台木の影響がそのまま固定するとは予期できない。動物での栄養雑種については，鳥類での血液入替えの試みが報告されたりしているが，雑種化的な影響が生じたことは，一般には確認されていない。
