After that, “Musumegonomi Ukina Yokogushi” (Kirare Otomi, July 1864 at Edo Morita-za, written by Kawatake Mokuami) and “Uwabami Oyoshi Uwasa no Adauchi” (Oyu, January 1866 at Edo Nakamura-za, written by Segawa Jyokou III) performed by Sawamura Tanosuke III, and “Shinbangoe Shiranami” (New White Waves) performed by Bando Shuuka I. His works include "Bankoshi no Shiranami" (Omatsu the Demon, September 1851, Edo Ichimura-za, written by Sakurada Jisuke III), and other works by Kawatake Mokuami include "Shojo Hyoban Zenaku Kagami" (The Five Women of the White Wave), "Gonichi no Tatemae from Chushingura" (Onna Sadakuro), and "Konotegashiwa: Both Sides of Good and Evil" (Dafui no Ohyaku). In modern times, Sawamura Gennosuke IV specialized in playing evil women.

…《杜若艶色紫（かきつばたいろもえどぞめ）》(1815年5月河原崎座)の土手のお六などがその代表例。以降，3世沢村田之助によって演じられた《処女翫（むすめごのみ）浮名横櫛》(《切られお富》，1864年7月江戸守田座，河竹黙阿弥作)，《於由曙評仇討（うわばみおよしうわさのあだうち）》(《お由》，1866年1月江戸中村座，3世瀬川如皐作)や，初世坂東しうかによる《新板越白浪（しんばんこしのしらなみ）》(《鬼神のお松》，1851年9月江戸市村座，3世桜田治助作)などがあり，ほかに河竹黙阿弥の作品として《処女評判善悪鏡》(《白浪五人女》)，《忠臣蔵後日建前（ごにちのたてまえ）》(《女定九郎》)，《善悪両面児手柏（このてがしわ）》(《妲妃のお百》)などがある。近代では4世沢村源之助が悪婆物を得意芸として演じた。…
