...a concept that explains how the personality, integrated by the ego, interacts with society and culture. Translations include self identity, ego identity, subjectivity, self-confirmation, and sense of belonging. This term, which was often used in the field of philosophy, also came to be widely used in the fields of sociology and psychology in the 1960s, when the degree of control was increasing in advanced industrial society, and the phenomenon of self-expression was seen especially among young people.
