…It is a forgery attributed to Diktys of Crete. It has come down to us today as a 6-volume Latin translation by Lucius Septimius (4th century?). According to the letter and preface at the beginning of the book, this book was originally a war record (ephemeris means journal) written by Diktys, a servant of Idomeneus, King of Crete, a Greek general who participated in the Trojan War, at his command. It had been buried underground at Knossos for a long time and was discovered in the 13th year of Emperor Nero's reign (66 AD). At that time, the original Phoenician characters were first changed to Greek characters, and then Septimius changed it to Latin. …
