Sikandar Lodī (English spelling)

Sikandar Lodī (English spelling)

...Population: 892,000 (1991). In the early 16th century, it came under the control of Sikandar Lodi, a Muslim ruler who established his capital in Delhi, and developed into the political and economic centre of the region. Akbar, the third Mughal Emperor, who overthrew the Lodi dynasty, built Agra Fort between 1564 and 1575.

From [Roddy Morning]

...While the other dynasties were of Turkish origin, this dynasty was of Afghan origin. The dynasty was destroyed after 75 years under three generations of Bahlūl Lodī (reigned 1451-89), Sikandar Lodī (reigned 1489-1517), and Ibrāhīm Lodī (reigned 1517-26), but in relation to the Mughal Empire, which defeated the dynasty in the Battle of Panipat, it played an important role in inheriting Muslim rule in the Delhi Sultanate. Unlike the rule of the Turkish dynasties, it is said to have had a strong coalition government character of Afghan nobles.
