A former town in Taka District, central Hyogo Prefecture. It is located at the confluence of the Saji River, a tributary of the Kakogawa River, and the Sasayama River, and is served by the Kakogawa Line. It is close to Nishiwaki City, the home of Banshu textiles, and has many small and medium-sized textile factories. It also cultivates shiitake mushrooms and raises livestock. 兵庫県中部,多可郡の旧町。加古川支流の佐治川と篠山(ささやま)川の合流点にあり,加古川線が通じる。播州織物の本場西脇市に近く,中小織物工場が多数ある。シイタケ栽培,畜産も行う。2005年10月西脇市へ編入。35.34km2。8163人(2003)。
