[Protein Classification]
There are many attempts to classify the huge number of different types of proteins. Proteins that consist only of polypeptide chains are called simple proteins, while those that exist bound to other substances (including non-covalent bonds) are called conjugated proteins (Table 3-(1)). There is also a classification based on the difference in isoelectric point in the solvent (Table 3-(2)), and names such as albumin and globulin are remnants of the classification of proteins based on solubility (Table 3-(4)).
