A protochordate (illustration) of the family Eboyidae of the class Urochordate. Widely distributed throughout Japan, it attaches itself to rocks with the end of its long stalk, and often attaches to the bottom of aquaculture rafts and boats, causing damage. Its body is yellowish brown and slender, with a total length of about 10 cm including the stalk. Its surface is leathery and hard, with many irregular grooves and projections. The entry and exit openings are at the front end of the body, but the entry tube is often curved slightly ventrally. It is hermaphroditic. The fascial body is sometimes eaten.
