An old town in the southwest of Iki Island, Iki District, Nagasaki Prefecture. Gonoura, the central town, is the administrative center of the island and has regular shipping services from Hakata Port. In addition to fishing, pearl farming and rice cultivation, the town also produces beef cattle and tobacco leaves. The island's highest point, Takenotsuji (213m), and its complex coastal scenery are part of the Iki-Tsushima Quasi-National Park. In March 2004, it merged with Katsumoto Town, Ashibe Town, and Ishida Town in Iki District to form Iki City. 47.31 km2 . Population: 12,461 (2003).
