The coast in the west of Otaru, Hokkaido. It usually refers to the 8km stretch from Shioya to Ranshima Beach. Oshiro Bay, a small bay in the northwest of a small peninsula with developed sea cliffs, is 200m wide and extends about 900m into the bay. The bottom is sandy and muddy, and there are few wind waves, making it suitable for boat anchorage. A customs house was established here in 1667 (Kanbun 7), and it was famous as the center of herring fishing. The area is designated as the Niseko-Shakotan-Otaru Coast Quasi-National Park, and the Oshiro Stone Circle on the southeastern plateau of Oshiro-cho is a designated historic site.
