A bay in northeastern Vietnam. It faces a coastline of about 100 km from Hai Phong to Hon Gai, and outside the bay are the Huai Tri Long archipelago. The archipelago is made up of numerous rocky islands made of limestone, most of which are 40 to 100 m high. The bay was formed when the low mountains that make up the border with China collapsed onto the coast, and its scenery of oddly shaped rocks has long been considered a scenic spot in Vietnam, and it developed as a resort area during the French colonial period. The inside of the bay is shallow, but the area outside the archipelago is deep, allowing large ships to navigate. [Bessagi Atsuhiko] Source: Heibonsha World Encyclopedia, 2nd Edition Information |
