Born: April 29, 1863 in Alexandria
Died: April 29, 1933. A Greek poet from Alexandria. He spent his childhood in England and Constantinople, but never left his hometown, living a quiet life as a civil servant. Being away from his home country, he was outside the linguistic debates surrounding literature, and was not influenced by Neo-Athenian poets such as K. Palamas, so he devoted himself to writing poetry from a high-minded standpoint. His main works are collected in the Poiimata, published in 1904 and 1910. His works are classified as philosophical, historical, and sensual, but all of them borrow themes from the Hellenistic and Byzantine periods and are consistently skeptical in tone.

ギリシアの詩人。少年時代をイギリスとコンスタンチノープルで過したほかは生涯出身地を離れず，官吏として静かな生活をおくった。本国を離れていたため文学をめぐる言語論争の外にあり，K.パラマスをはじめとする新アテネ派の詩人たちの影響を受けず，高踏的な立場から詩作に専念した。 1904年と 10年に刊行した『詩集』 Poiimataにおもな作品を収録。作品は哲学的，歴史的，官能的なものに分類されるが，いずれもヘレニズム，ビザンチン時代に題材をかり，懐疑的な調子が貫かれている。
