Born: April 29, 1863 in Alexandria Died: April 29, 1933. A Greek poet from Alexandria. He spent his childhood in England and Constantinople, but never left his hometown, living a quiet life as a civil servant. Being away from his home country, he was outside the linguistic debates surrounding literature, and was not influenced by Neo-Athenian poets such as K. Palamas, so he devoted himself to writing poetry from a high-minded standpoint. His main works are collected in the Poiimata, published in 1904 and 1910. His works are classified as philosophical, historical, and sensual, but all of them borrow themes from the Hellenistic and Byzantine periods and are consistently skeptical in tone.
