Orchestre de Paris

Founded in 1967, this is one of France's leading orchestras. It was founded as the Paris Conservatoire Orchestra (established in 1828), which was directly affiliated with the Paris Conservatoire, and has been active as a first-class orchestra since its inception. Its past music directors have been Munch (1967-68), Karajan (music advisor, 1969-71), Solti (1972-75), Barenboim (1975-89), Bychkov (1989-98), Dohnanyi (music advisor, 1998-2000), and Eschenbach (2000- ). During this time, Barenboim launched a series of chamber music and small-scale concerts with musicians who were also excellent soloists, and in 1976, a choir was also established. Regular concerts have been held at venues such as the Théâtre des Champs-Élysées, but are now held at the Pleyel Hall. It first came to Japan in 1970.

1967年に設立されたフランスの代表的オーケストラ。パリ音楽院直属のパリ音楽院管弦楽団（1828成立）が母体であったため、設立当初から第一級の楽団として演奏活動を続けている。歴代の音楽監督はミュンシュ（1967～68）、カラヤン（音楽顧問、1969～71）、ショルティ（1972～75）、バレンボイム（1975～89）、ビシュコフ（1989～98）、ドホナーニ（音楽顧問、1998～2000）、エッシェンバハ（2000～　）。この間バレンボイムは、独奏者としても優れた楽員との室内楽、小編成による演奏会シリーズを発足させ、76年には合唱団を併設した。定期演奏会はシャンゼリゼ劇場などを経て現在はプレイエル・ホールで行っている。1970年（昭和45）初来日。
