Smith, GE (English spelling)

…In the history of ethnology, diffusionism became popular in the early 20th century as a criticism of evolutionism in the late 19th century. There are various schools of thought on this subject, and at the extreme end is the theory of British scholars Grafton Elliot Smith and William James Perry, who claim that ancient Egypt was the sole source of world civilization, and that the solar megalithic culture spread from there to the rest of the world (heliocentrism). The so-called cultural sphere theory of Germany and Austria is also often called diffusionism. …

From [Mummy]

… Corpse Phenomenon [Toru Kojima]
[Mummies of the World]
Mummification as a method of preserving the corpse is widespread around the world, around the equator. G. Elliot Smith once published a theory in Migrations of Early Culture (1915) that all mummification was transmitted from ancient Egypt, but no one currently supports this theory. It is true that mummification was practiced in Egypt from the early days of the First Dynasty and played a major role in the formation of the religious culture of death that is a characteristic of their civilization, but it is impossible to give a unified explanation for the distribution of mummies that has spread to the New World.
