Oxo-process cobalt catalyst

Oxo-process cobalt catalyst

… Examples of catalysts playing a central role in chemical industrial processes continued to emerge. Examples include the cobalt or iron catalysts used in the Fischer-Tropsch reaction, which uses hydrogen and carbon monoxide as raw materials like in the methyl alcohol synthesis process, but is primarily intended to produce liquid fuel; vanadium pentoxide, a selective oxidation catalyst that replaces platinum as a catalyst for sulfuric acid production to produce phthalic anhydride and maleic anhydride; the Raney nickel catalyst, which treats nickel-aluminum alloys with sodium hydroxide to dissolve the aluminum and obtain fine nickel powder, which is used under mild conditions to produce pharmaceutical ingredients and foods; the solid phosphoric acid catalyst for producing liquid polymers from olefins; and the cobalt oxo catalyst for producing higher alcohols from olefins, carbon monoxide, and hydrogen.
