Abbreviation: PCIJ. Founded after World War I, it was the first ever permanent international judicial institution not limited to a single region. It was created based on Article 14 of the Covenant of the League of Nations. It was open to non-member countries of the League, but the United States did not join. Located in The Hague, Netherlands, it was the first ever global international court of justice with full-time judges, and by the time its activities were suspended due to World War II, it had issued 23 judgments and 27 advisory opinions, contributing to the development of international law.
