Dog fleas - Inunomi (English spelling) dog flea

Dog fleas - Inunomi (English spelling) dog flea

An insect belonging to the order Siphonaptera (Crypoptera) and family Pseudocidae. Males are about 2 mm long and females about 3 mm long, and they are found all over the world, but are not very common in the tropical regions of Africa and Asia. They mainly parasitize dogs, but also cats, weasels, foxes, and other carnivorous animals. They resemble human fleas, but are easily distinguished by the rows of sharp spines (combs) on their cheeks and the rear edge of their prothorax. They are in the same genus as cat fleas, and are very similar, but can be distinguished by the fact that their foreheads are more rounded. They sometimes appear in large numbers and bite humans, making them important as sanitary pests.
