Solution culture

...A method of cultivating plants without using soil, by providing them with water that contains the elements necessary for normal plant growth. It is also called soilless culture, solution culture, or hydroponics. Bulbous plants such as crocuses and hyacinths can be cultivated with just water, as the bulbs themselves contain nutrients. In this case, it is called hydroponics.
