Ikeda Manor - Ikeda no Sho

Japanese:
Ikeda Manor - Ikeda no Sho

This was a manor owned by Kofuku-ji Temple in Sonokami-gun, Yamato Province (near Ikeda-cho, Nara City today). In 1070 (Enkyu 2), the area consisted of exempt fields and farmland covering a total of 55 cho (1 cho is approximately 119 ares) and was spread across four ri (ri) of Nijo 3-4 ri and Sanjo 3-4 ri. Kofuku-ji Temple was only able to collect miscellaneous taxes from these fields and farmland, and at this stage it had more of a provincial government estate. Sometime after Enkyu, it became the property of Ichijo-in Temple of Kofuku-ji Temple, and in 1186 (Bunji 2), the manor area was concentrated in Nijo 4 ri and became Ichien Manor. The area was reduced to just over 36 cho, but 11 people were allocated roughly equal amounts of land, each about 2 cho, and the collection system was established as one of the 12 basic territories of Ichijo-in. Bunji's Ikeda Manor, concentrated in Nijo Shiri, continued almost unchanged into the early modern and modern Ikeda Village, and is a notable village in terms of village history.
