Year of birth: Year of birth and death unknown. A military commander in the Northern and Southern Courts and early Muromachi period. Second son of Noriuji. Kazusa no Suke. He initially entered the Kenchoji Temple in Kamakura, but returned to secular life and inherited the family headship after the death of his older brother Ujiie. By 1369 (Oan 2/Shohei 24), he was the Shugo of Suruga, and from 1395 (Oei 2), he also served as Shugo of Totomi. In 1378 (Eiwa 4/Tenju 4), he became the head of the Samurai Department of the Muromachi Shogunate. He hosted Shogun Ashikaga Yoshimitsu when he visited Suruga in 1388 (Kakei 2/Genchu 5), and distinguished himself in battle during the Meitoku War and the Oei War, when Yamana Ujikiyo and Ouchi Yoshihiro rebelled against the Shogunate, respectively. The Imagawa Family Genealogy states that he died on September 26, Oei 16 (November 3, 1409) at the age of 76, but this is unknown. Regarding his posthumous name, the Imagawa Family Brief History states that he was "Chokei-ji-dono Oyama Nakataka Daizenjomon," but the correct name is "Hotaka."
