A document given by a lord to his vassals when assigning land or office in the Middle Ages and early modern times. It is also written as a chigyo kogyojo and is also called an atekoijo. The document was mainly issued in the form of a Shogun's sleeve seal shimono or Shogunate Mandokoro shimono in the Kamakura period, a Shogun's official seal gosho (imperial edict) in the Muromachi period, and a hanmono or inkanjo in the Sengoku period. In the Edo period, documents issued by the Shogun to his hatamoto and by daimyo to their vassals were called chigyo kogyojo, and in the early Edo period, they were issued in the form of a shuinjo from the Shogun to his hatamoto, and in the form of a hanmono or black sealjo from daimyo to their vassals. → Related items Source : Heibonsha Encyclopedia About MyPedia Information |
