...The Vajrasekhara Sutra places the symbolically expressed world of Buddha as a real entity outside of the human world, and based on the logic of yoga (mystical unity) that "the symbolized and the symbol itself are one and the same," it aims to attain Buddhahood in this very body by performing the three mysterious incantations, namely, imitating the movements of the various deities with one's own physical movements (Katsuma mudra), reciting their mantras out loud (Dharma mudra), and contemplating in one's mind the images that symbolize them (Sammaya mudra), thereby realizing pure esoteric Buddhism. Tantric Buddhism recognizes the feminine principle of that world as the Prajnaparamita (Buddha Mother, i.e. the wisdom that gives rise to enlightenment), equates it with a living woman (Mahayana), and aims to realize the androgynous true existence (enlightenment) by sexually practicing yoga (union) with it. It is usually disliked as a Left-Handed Esoteric Buddhism, but its essence can be seen as a return to the origins of Indian spirituality.
