stevioside

...It is a hardy plant that can be propagated by seeds or cuttings. In warm regions, the underground stems do not die even in winter, and sprout again from the stalk the following spring. The leaves contain a substance called stevioside, which is said to be 300 times sweeter than sugar. Picking the leaves and adding them to tea gives it a refreshing sweetness.
