An Uzbek state with its capital in Khiva (originally Urgench) on the lower Amu Darya in Central Asia, and its territory covering the Khwarezm region and its surrounding areas. 1512-1920. The Khan's power was weak and there were constant internal conflicts, so real power came to be held by the Kungrat tribe. The state also suffered from invasions by nomads such as the Bukhara Khanate, Iran, and Turkmen, and its industry and culture were sluggish. In this environment, Abū al-Ghāzī Bahādur Khān (reigned 1643-63) was also famous as a historian, having written historical works such as The Genealogy of the Turks.
