Planariidae

…the name of a genus of flatworms in the family Planariidae of the order Tricladida of the class Turbellaria, or the name generally used to refer to species in the family Planariidae. The Japanese planarian Dugesia japonica (illustration) was once classified as part of the Planaria genus, but was subsequently transferred from the Planaria genus to the Dugesia genus after detailed examination of its reproductive organs, and therefore there are currently no species in the Planaria genus in Japan.
