Linear B - Senmoji B

Japanese: 線文字B - せんもじビー

Among the Minoan scripts (broadly divided into pictographs, Linear A and B), named by Evans, this is the newest style and was used from the 16th to 12th centuries BCE. Also called Mycenaean script, extant writings are mainly written on clay tablets and vases. Most were discovered at Knossos, Pylos, and Mycenae, but small amounts have also been excavated from Tiryns, Thebes, Orchomenos, Eleusis, and other places. Of these, the ones excavated at Pylos are the most numerous and in good condition, but what were originally temporary notes were burned and hardened when the royal palace burned down, and only survived.

エバンズにより名づけられたミノア文字(絵文字，線文字A･Bに大別)のうち，最も新しい書体で，前16～前12世紀にかけて使用された。ミュケナイ文字ともいわれ，おもに粘土板や壺に書かれたものが現存している。大部分はクノッソス，ピュロス，ミュケナイで発見されたが，ティリュンス，テーバイ，オルコメノス，エレウシスなどからもわずかながら出土している。このうちピュロス出土のものが一番多く，保存状態も良好であるが，本来一時的なメモであったものが王宮炎上の際焼かれて硬くなり残存した。
