...There are three species of red-winged grasshoppers in Japan. The similar C. nupta, C. nupta , lives mainly in central and northern Honshu, where its larvae live on poplar and poplar trees. The red-winged C. dula, C. dula , lives on Japanese oak, Kunugi, and Kashiwa. All overwinter as eggs, grow by feeding on the leaves of their host plants when they are newly green, and emerge as adults in summer.
