(Brother) Cosmas Damian, 21 September 1686, Benediktbeuern - 1739, Weltenburg (Younger brother) Egid Quirin 1 September 1692 Tegernsee - 29 April 1750 Mannheim German architect and sculptor brothers. Their father was a muralist, and they studied in Rome from 1712 to 1714, coming under the influence of G. Bernini and P. Cortona. They settled in Munich, and produced works in Germany and Switzerland. The elder brother was primarily skilled in architecture and mural painting, while the younger brother was skilled in sculpture, and they produced an original Baroque style that combined Roman influences with the decorative traditions of Bavaria. Egit first gained fame with the altar of the Rohr Abbey (1717-22), and then together they decorated the interiors of various churches, after which they built the Abbey Church of Weltenburg (16-21) and the Church of St. Johann Nepomuk in Munich (33-46).
