Syncytium

Japanese: syncytium
Syncytium

...the cell membrane of two or more adjacent cells disappears at the contact points, resulting in the formation of multinucleated cells. The resulting multinucleated cells are called syncytium. Cells with two nuclei are often simply called binucleated cells or binucleated cells. ...

From [Polynuclear body]

…An individual may be entirely made up of multinucleated cells, or a specific part of an individual may be multinucleated. Depending on how multinucleated cells are formed, the cell septa may be lost and two or more cells may fuse together (syncytium), or they may form without cell division after nuclear division. In the algae group, such as the green algae Charophytes, Cladophorales, and Mitales, all species in the latter group are multinucleated, and in the xanthophyte group, such as the Charophytes, and the Mitales, there is a clear tendency for these groups to evolve toward multinucleated states.
