〘 noun 〙 One of the three-stringed harps. Also the music it plays. A bamboo tube is split and cut to the size of a yakumo koto, a paulownia board is attached to the top, and a three-stringed instrument is stretched on top of that. It was invented by Tamura Yozaburo (pennamed Takekin -o ) in 1886, and was granted a patent by the Ministry of Agriculture and Commerce. 〘名〙 三弦琴の一つ。また、その音楽。竹筒を割って八雲琴の大きさに切り、上面に桐板を張り、その上に三弦を張ったもの。明治一九年(一八八六)、田村与三郎(号竹琴翁)の発明になり、農商務省の専売特許を得た。音楽は高尚優美な歌詞と曲調を意図したもの。※読売新聞‐明治二五年(1892)二月三日「田村竹琴翁の発明に係る竹琴は、追々研磨の功を積み」
