Located in South Kensington, London, this is the world's largest art museum. It originated from the Industrial Museum, which was founded in Marlborough House in 1852 in response to the Great Exhibition held in London in 1851, in order to promote industrial arts, crafts, and craft education in Britain. With the expansion of the colony during the Victorian era, many art and craft items and rare objects were collected from both inside and outside of Britain, and in 1957 they were moved to the South Kensington Museum, which was built at its current location as a museum complex. The collection continued to grow, and in 1999, at the cornerstone-laying ceremony for the extension, Queen Victoria gave the museum its current name, which includes the name of her husband, Prince Albert.

ロンドンのサウス･ケンジントンにある世界最大の工芸美術館。1851年ロンドンで開催された万国博覧会を契機とし，イギリスの産業美術，工芸，工芸教育を発揚するために，52年マールボロ邸に創設された〈産業博物館〉を母体とする。ビクトリア朝時代の植民地拡大により，内外の美術工芸品，珍品が多く収集され，57年博物館の複合体として現在地に建設された〈サウス･ケンジントン博物館〉に移る。その後も収蔵品は増大し，99年，増築工事の定礎式の際，ビクトリア女王は夫君アルバート公の名を連ねた現在の名称を与えた。
