Hygrophila lancea (Thunb.) Miq.

Japanese: オギノツメ（英語表記）Hygrophila lancea (Thunb.) Miq.

A perennial plant of the Acanthaceae family found in areas south of central Honshu, from Shikoku and Kyushu to Okinawa and Taiwan, growing in wetlands. There are about 80 known species in the genus Acanthaceae, mainly in tropical regions around the world, and all of them are known to prefer wetlands. The scientific name of the genus comes from Hygrophyte (wet plant). The stem is quadrangular and eventually becomes upright, reaching a height of 30-60 cm. The base creeps horizontally, and roots emerge from the nodes. The leaves are linear-lanceolate, 5-10 cm long, 0.5-1.5 cm wide, almost sessile, and have entire or wavy sawtooth edges.

本州中部以南，四国，九州から沖縄，台湾にかけて分布するキツネノマゴ科の多年草で，湿地に生える。オギノツメ属には世界の熱帯を中心に80種ほどが知られるが，どれも湿地を好むことが知られている。属の学名はHygrophyte(湿生植物)に由来する。　茎は四角形でやがて直立し高さ30～60cm。基部は横にはい，節から根を出す。葉は線状披針形で長さ5～10cm，幅0.5～1.5cm，ほとんど無柄で，ふちには全縁または波状鋸歯がある。
