…In the 1960s, major events such as environmental pollution, America's defeat in Vietnam, and the arrival of humans on the moon called for a change in the worldview, and people began to feel that technological society had reached a dead end. This led to the birth of a reform movement called the New Wave. In the UK, New Worlds, edited by M. Moorcock, was the only science fiction magazine, but with the emergence of new writers such as Ballard and Aldiss, it began to actively criticize American science fiction. In the US, this was supported by J. Merrill, and a new group of writers such as SR Delany, H. Ellison, Le Guin, K. Wilhelm, and TM Disch appeared with similar arguments, sparking a major controversy. Many of the writers who appeared with the New Wave also focused on science and technology and social conditions, but the bigger change was that they began to place importance on the inner world of humans and pursue a theoretical scientific worldview. …
