Tauromenion

...Population: 10,905 (1990). Known as the Sicilian Paradise, in ancient times it was called Tauromenion and was a key transportation hub located between Messina and Catania. At the end of the 9th century it was the center of Byzantine Sicily, but at the beginning of the 10th century it was conquered by the Arabs.
